I've been listening to people on the television pontificate all day, and it makes me realize that there's nothing one can really say at a time like this that's at all appropriate other than sorry. For the victims, their families, our nation and the world, I'm so very sorry.

I'm at my mother's house in Montgomery. My grandmother is in the back room, incredibly ill. This has been the worst day I can remember.

Harper I love you with everything I have, with everything I am, and I wish with all my heart that I could be with you right now.
