My husband's granny's body was buried today. He had a relationship with her that was very close, and his sadness cannot be measured. I had the priviledge of being around her only a few times but loved her as well. She had a youthful twinkle in her eyes despite her aged body, and I believe that that young soul is now dancing and turning cartwheels -- freed from the chains of this earthly shell. Thank you God for taking Granny to the world that she deserves. Please pray for the souls left behind who mourn her loss. I love you Mat and wish that I could be with you during this week of deep, sometimes inexpressable sadness.

When we have secured our safety once more and cared for the wounded,
after the period of shock and mourning is over, it will be time for
soul searching. I only hope that these questions are confronted with the
deepest spiritual intent. None of us will feel safe again behind the shield of
military might and stockpiled arsenals. There can be no safety until
the root cause is faced. In this moment of shock I don't think anyone of
us has the answers. It is imperative that we pray and offer solace and help
to each other. But if you and I are having a single thought of violence
or hatred against anyone in the world at this moment, we are contributing
to the wounding of the world.

The Golden Gate Bridge was closed to pedestrians yesterday. Is it still? Everywhere I go where there are a lot of people I worry that something could happen there. Now is the time when faith is strenthened or weakened. I must remind myself that there is a divine plan for all of us already written out. Me being terrified on the Bart is not going to make something happen or not happen to me. As my brother, the rock climber who just came down off of El Capitan having spent five nights on a difficult route to the top, says, "People die everyday by slipping in the shower on the soap." Thanks Lee! for always putting things in perspective and challenging my faith...

"As a potter shapes clay into a vessel,
shape me, O Blessed One,
into a true disciple or your Way.
Fill me with you grace
that I may train my body this day
to serve others."
